Unlocking Your Gifts Through Your Human Design Gates

What Are Gates?

In Human Design, Gates are specific points within the BodyGraph, which is a chart used in Human Design to represent your energy and personality. There are 64 Gates, each corresponding to a hexagram of the I Ching, an ancient Chinese divination text. These Gates are situated within nine Centers (similar to chakras) in the BodyGraph.

How Do Gates Work?

Each Gate represents a particular energy or trait. When a Gate is "activated" (based on the positions of the planets at the time of your birth), it influences your behavior, tendencies, and interactions. Think of Gates as unique traits or characteristics that shape who you are.

Defined vs. Undefined Gates

  • Defined Gates: If a Gate is defined in your chart (colored in), it means you have consistent access to the energy and traits associated with that Gate. This means that particular aspect of your personality is strong and reliable.

  • Undefined Gates: If a Gate is undefined (white), it indicates variability in how you express the traits of that Gate. You might experience these traits through interaction with others who have those Gates defined.

The Importance of Gates

Understanding your Gates can provide profound insights into various aspects of your life, including:

  • Personality: Each Gate offers a glimpse into different facets of your personality. For example, Gate 1 is associated with creativity and self-expression, while Gate 44 is linked to alertness and intuitive awareness.

  • Relationships: Knowing your Gates can help you understand how you connect with others. Some Gates may indicate areas where you can easily bond with others or where you might face challenges.

  • Life Purpose: Gates can highlight your strengths and potential life themes, guiding you toward fulfilling your unique purpose.
